burden of dreams

werner herzog is insane. this documentary on making of fitzcarraldo is as interesting as the film itself. i always knew that herzog chose topics of struggle against nature for his films and his documentaries but this documentary by les blank shows that herzog is fitzcarrraldo himself. same wild dreams and obstinacy that leads to many controversial issues related to colonialism, labor, etc.

overall the documentary was great because the film fitzcarraldo is a very unique experience in the history of film. although herzog might be considered as a selfish director living in and creating insane illusions, he is a genius. and all the more intriguing.
