2 ffw films and drunk times

i couldn't really give the two films their worth: i am cuba and picnic at hanging rock. i watched them in fast forward. but my favorite film critic has written well about them if any of you guys are interested:
  • soy cuba
  • picnic at hanging rock

  • also this weekend i realized somethings very crucial about myself:
    1- i am always drunk at really important moments (these include scary, embarrasing, exciting, fun moments).
    2- when i sober up i can't distinguish the real moments from the drunk dreams i have that night.
    3- i always remember the drunk nights in parts and gasp at some strange things that happened during the day and with great surprise.
    4- i am beyond any feeling of shame about the things i have done, since no one could have that amount of feeling of shame in their psyche, i've already used it all up.
    5- i no longer have the day-long vomiting dirty massive hangovers, i just have a headache.
    6- yoghurt with fruits and coke cure my hangovers.
    7- i can outdrink anyone i know, all my friends, including esin.

    zhang yuan's green tea

    Q: who is your favorite director?
    Zhang: Rainer Werner Fassbinder.
    Q: How do you describe love in Green Tea?
    Zhang: I am trying to tell people that there is a kind of love – uninterrupted, seeking and searching, continually asking why.

    "i hate it when a man hits a woman"
    the film was basically closeups following each other one after another along with an ogoing dialogue about love, gloves, friend, fortune in different coffeshops in china.

    burning

    This morning I woke up in a curfew;
    O God, I was a prisoner, too - yeah!
    Could not recognize the faces standing over me;
    They were all dressed in uniforms of brutality. Eh!

    How many rivers do we have to cross,
    Before we can talk to the boss? Eh!
    All that we got, it seems we have lost;
    We must have really paid the cost.

    (That's why we gonna be)
    Burnin' and a-lootin' tonight;
    (Say we gonna burn and loot)
    Burnin' and a-lootin' tonight;
    (One more thing)
    Burnin' all pollution tonight;
    (Oh, yeah, yeah)
    Burnin' all illusion tonight.

    Oh, stop them!

    Give me the food and let me grow;
    Let the Roots Man take a blow.
    All them drugs gonna make you slow now;
    It's not the music of the ghetto. Eh!

    Weeping and a-wailin' tonight;
    (Who can stop the tears?)
    Weeping and a-wailin' tonight;
    (We've been suffering these long, long-a years!)
    Weeping and a-wailin' tonight
    (Will you say cheer?)
    Weeping and a-wailin' tonight
    (But where?)

    Give me the food and let me grow;
    Let the Roots Man take a blow.
    I must say: all them - all them drugs gonna make you slow;
    It's not the music of the ghetto.

    We gonna be burning and a-looting tonight;
    (To survive, yeah!)
    Burning and a-looting tonight;
    (Save your baby lives)
    Burning all pollution tonight;
    (Pollution, yeah, yeah!)
    Burning all illusion tonight
    (Lord-a, Lord-a, Lord-a, Lord!)

    Burning and a-looting tonight;
    Burning and a-looting tonight;
    Burning all pollution tonight.

    berkeley in the sixties

    sometimes the passion and emotion is more important than articulation and plan, even if it only lasts a second.

    "There's a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart, that you can't take part, you can't even passively take part, and you've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you've got to make it stop! And you've got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it, that unless you're free, the machine will be prevented from working at all!" mario savio

    closely watched trains

    a coming of age of a sexually frustrated boy in the mids of german occupation in chezchoslavikia (excuse the spelling, this and nietzche always gets me). it was funny in some parts but i could not find enough satisfaction. it is the winner of best foreign aacdemy award in 1966.

    sept. playlist

    The Killing Moon Echo & The Bunnymen
    Suedehead Morissey
    Blue Monday Nouvelle Vague
    Bela Lugosi's Dead Nouvelle Vague
    Red Flags and Long Nights She Wants Revenge

    films i've seen

    science of sleep was great! black dahlia was horrible..waiting for the prestige.
    now here's a list of films i've seen that I don't want to forget:

    sympathy for mr.vengeance: cinematographically great, intriguing storyline. but i don't really understand the hype about his revenge series.

    naked by mike leigh: brilliant film. our dear lupin of harrry potter is acting a nihilist young man with problems of commitment, affection and relationship.

    jubilee by derek jarman: postmodern, punk, violent film or rather a show of what film would be like if we actually lived within punk aesthetics. god save the queen!

    A hole in my heart by Moodysson that cheerful director of together and fucking amal. very very disturbing film. Here's something he said about his own film: Lukas Moodysson has expressed disapproval over the future VHS and DVD releases of the movie (the decision to release it was out of his hands) — he would preferred theaters-only release, to avoid children being exposed to it. He has also said that "in a perfect world, this movie would not be made".

    Suzanne's career by rohmer: thanks to mithat bey's purchase we now have the six moral tales collection. i like rohmer's early films, his recent one was horrible. this film was very touching.

    Ma nuit chez maud: masterpiece

    Fidel documentary by Estela Bravo: you can't help but love the guy. long live commandante.
